The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office covers roughly 500 square miles of land with approximately 1000 miles of roadway. The Sheriff’s Office investigates all types of accidents on gravel roads, county roads, city roads and 4 major state highways.
According to Iowa Code, 321.262, accidents must be reported to law enforcement in a timely matter.
It is the policy of the Sheriff’s Office that if you leave the scene of an accident and call to report the accident later, NO accident report will be completed. The Sheriff’s Office is unable to properly investigate it at the time of the accident so only a Call-For-Service will be created.
Press releases with limited information concerning an accident are released to the media.
